I wanted to accomplish many things with my retelling of Jane Eyre, which would include recasting Jane herself—the character who taught me as a teen that, no matter who you are or where you come from, your worth is not assigned by anyone outside of you.
If I could leap back in time to interact with my parents as kids, I would 100% take that opportunity. I bet most of us would.
