Coming Soon: The sequel is the thing

June 11, 2013 by Karen Jensen, MLS   6 comments

One of the hardest parts of collection development is keeping track of all of the series, trilogies, miniseries and more that are published in the YA world.  The very worst thing for a patron and a reader is to not get a new title in a timely manner.  I’m not gonna say that I have ever done that, I’ve just heard that it stinks.  I have been hard at work keeping track of when sequels to the popular series at my library are coming out, and I thought I would share.  You are welcome.  You were going to say thank you, right?  Know a title coming soon?  Add it in the comments.

Dance of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin
Sequel to Masque of the Red Death, out June 11, 2013
Great atmosphere, amazing covers, epidemics, plus – based on Poe.  All around win.

Quarantine: The Saints by Lex Thomas
Sequel to Quarantine: The Losers, out July 9 2013

The Uprsising by Lisa M. Stasse
The Forsaken #2, out August 6, 2013
Also amazing covers

The Bitter Kingdom by Rae Carson
Fire and Thrones #3, out August 27, 2013

United We Spy by Ally Carter
Gallagher Girls #7, out September 10, 2013
I am sad because this is apparently the last Gallagher Girls book.  I will be in denial.

Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater
Book 2 in the Raven Cycle, out September 17, 2013

Untold by Sara Rees Brennan
The Lynborn Legacy #2, sequel to Unspoken, out September 24, 2013
Do yourself a favor and read this one, funny and Sara loves to kill people.  I’m assuming it is only in books that she loves to do this.  They changed the covers, which is unfortunate, but I guess they did it because the other cover made the book look younger then the actual audience was.

Fire and Ash by Jonathan Maberry
The final book in the Rot & Ruin quartet, out September 27, 2013
The series is technically called The Benny Imura series, named after the main character.

Inheritance by Malindo Lo
Sequel to Adaptation, out September 24, 2013

BZRK Reloaded by Michael Grant
Sequel to BZRK, out October 8, 2013
Nanotechnology, gaming, action.

Just One Year by Gayle Forman
Follow-up to Just One Day, out October 15, 2013

Unsouled by Neal Shuterman
Sequel to Unwind and Unwholly, out October 15, 2013
This is a really fab dystopian that came out before dystopian was really cool.

Thornhill by Kathleen Peacock
Sequel to Hemlock, out October 21, 2013
Werewolves. Murdery. Mystery.  A can’t miss combination.

Allegiant by Veronica Ross
Part of the Divergent series, out October 22, 2013

Champion by Marie Lu
Legend book 3, coming in November 2013
I’m going to pretend it is a birthday present to me.

Thank you! It is so hard… I know the 11th (and supposedly last) book in The Ranger's Apprentice is coming out in November. I only know that because I had a boy come into the library to put his name on the hold list already.

A gentleman that I work with is a huge Ranger's Apprentice fan and I fully rely on him to keep me up to date on this list. There is also a new Sorcerer's Apprentice book coming out he says.
