As I started writing Dad’s Girlfriend and Other Anxieties, it was clear 12-year-old Ava was an only child. Although Ava’s situation is somewhat unusual—her mom died shortly after giving birth—Ava isn’t alone in her “onliness.”
Imagine not just meeting a long-lost sibling, but a twin! Wild! It's their decision to keep their parents in the dark about their meeting (because they have coincidentally all ended up in the same city) that really makes the story interesting.
Bhai For Now is loosely based on my brothers and their relationship. I knew whatever project I worked on after Barakah Beats would have the brother dynamic that I grew up watching so intimately.
What do these three things have in common? Maybe nothing to you, but for me, these were the inspiration for my new middle-grade novel Meet Me Halfway.

One day last summer two surprises arrived—one in my inbox and one by snail mail. The first was an email with the beautiful cover art for my verse novel THE NAME SHE GAVE ME. The second was my original birth certificate, which I also saw for the first time.
