Cindy Crushes Programming: Wicked Fan Party

Elaine Waite and I worked on this program together. We are musical fans. We were excited for the Wicked: Part One movie and wanted to host a Fan Night like we had for other artists such as Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo. We did not get as many attendees as we would have liked, but we knew it was a gamble from the start with the potential for bad weather or school obligations. The early months of the year are tricky months for programming because the weather can be so unpredictable.
Snacks: We bought pink and green frosted sugar cookies (made possible by the overlap of Valentine’s Day and football season)
Trivia: Elaine made a PowerPoint of trivia questions. We had the patrons write their guesses on whiteboards and then turn them around to show us. The questions were about the Wizard of Oz and The Wicked Years books, The Wizard of Oz and Wicked movie and musicals.

Music: We played a mix of the Broadway Musical and the Movie soundtrack in the background.
Crafts
Coloring pages: Elaine Ordered the wicked Coloring book for the teens to be able to color. She cut the pages from the spine of the book and made copies so that the library would always have master copies of the books to make more copies from.
Book Magnet
Supplies:
- E600 glue
- Gluestick
- Craft Foam
- Paper cover
- Magnet level Five
Step One: I found the Wicked book cover that was musical based and a copy of the cover of the annotated Wizard of Oz. I made them a little bigger than I would if I was doing a bookshelf or tiktok ornament craft. You do not want to make them too big or else the spine of the book will be too big.
Step two: Cut out the Cover.
Step three: Paste the covers on the craft foam and make sure the spine of the craft foam is the spine of the book with glue stick.
Step Four: Use a drop of e600 glue on the magnet and then press it on the back of the mini book.
Step Five: wait to dry.
Wicked Necklace
I used this necklace method pretty often, in fact the last time I wrote about it for SLJ was when we made Wizard of Oz Necklaces.
Supplies:
- 1 Inch circle cutter
- Clear or white e6000 glue
- Pendant Trays & Round Cabochon Clear
- Waxed necklace cord (This is what I used, but I would use a longer cord when doing it again.)
- Diamond glaze
- Toothpicks
- Glitter glue (Optional)
Step one: I made a bunch of circle images of the cast of wicked and also the book and the original Broadway Playbill.
Step two: Let the teen pick their image.
Step Three: Take the round cabochon and put a layer of diamond crystal on it and attach the image. Use a toothpick to smooth it out. Roll the toothpick on the back of your picture like a rolling pin to release any air and help it stay flat. Wait for it to dry before starting the next step.
Step Four: Use the e6000 glue and put it on the front of the pendant tray. You will want to put your dried round cabochon with the image attached on the tray. I would press it gently. Let it dry completely before wearing.
Final thoughts: I think if Elaine and I were to do this program again we would have made it family or adult and teens. We learned that families like to celebrate Wicked together. We may not have had many people but the patrons we had enjoyed the program.
