Take 265: What Amanda Read in 2024
Usually on Fridays I do Take Five lists, recommending five books to read. But this first Friday of the new year is a Take 265 list. That’s right, this past year I read 265 books. In 2023 I read 258 books, for comparison. I read books for fun, books for review, books for the Cybils Awards, books for articles on grief and on periods, books for a piece on potential Printz picks, and books related to school shootings for a forthcoming article. I read while cooking, while eating, while in bed, while in waiting rooms, while sitting on my deck, while walking, and at all other times when I probably should’ve been doing something else in life. I read books sent to me by publishers, books from my public library, and books from the library at my school. I read while nervous about my mom’s surgery, while sad about my kid moving to college, and while a ball of rage over politics. And more than anything, I read with devoted chiweenies curled up by my side.
