Reader’s Advisory: Killer Cruises, teen horror on the seas
It’s summer time, which means some people are taking cruises. Others just wish they could. But maybe you shouldn’t wish that . . .
For today’s Reader’s Advisory category, we’re looking at Killer Cruises.
Cursed Cruise by Victoria Fulton and Faith McClaren
I have not read this book, but it says it is a Horror Hotel novel. I have read and enjoyed Horror Hotel, so this is on my TBR list. In this book, a group of teen ghost hunters are invited to travel aboard a historic yet haunted cruise ship. As with any good ghostly novel, the ghosts want you to know the killer is still on board. Kendare Blake called this “fast-paced and freaky.” It came out in March of 2024.
Lying in the Deep by Diana Urban
Author Diana Urban is out there writing consistently entertaining teen horror/mystery/thrillers. This cruise involves a semester at sea with a bit of jealousy and murder. Jade embarks on a once in a lifetime adventure after being dumped, but the backstabbing couple of betrayal happen to be on board. And when murder happens, Jade seems the most likely suspect. It’s a race against time to clear her name . . . and stay alive. This title came out in May of 2024.

Seasick by Kristin Cast and Pintip Dunn
There’s a killer onboard a luxury yacht and two former friends have to figure out who is the murderer before they become victims themselves. Told in alternating points of view, you’ll wish you never boarded this yacht. This title came out in June of 2024.
Girl Overboard by Sandra Block
While on a cruise ship vacation, a girl must investigate her friend’s disappearance. This book has been described as “Ruth Ware’s The Woman in Cabin 10 for teens”. Published in 2022.
Those We Drown by Amy Goldsmith
Another semester at sea program! Liv is invited to a semester at sea and on the first night, her ex-best friend Will disappears. This story involves a trio of social media influencers known as The Sirens, which gives you some hints as to where this story is going. But make no mistake, you never know what’s happening or who to believe until the very horrific ending. Published in 2023.
