Cindy Crushes Programming: Hosting an Olivia Rodridgo Fan Party, by Teen Librarian Cindy Shutts
Some programs are big hits, and others are small events. This was a small event. I had two signed up but I ended up getting only one of the two teens. I will say that one teen had a good time.
I love Olivia Rodrigo’s music and thought it would be a good idea to do a program around her. Especially with the GUTS World Tour starting recently. She became popular on the Disney+ show High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and has had two best selling albums, Sour and Guts. Her song Driver’s License was so popular there was an SNL Skit about it.

I love her 90’s inspired style and wanted to embrace that in the program so one activity was magazine collages, an activity that was super popular in the 90s. I gathered images of Olivia and her logos and gave out old magazines to cut up. This was the collage she made. It is super cute. I went with purple paper since purple is Olvia’s signature color.
Snacks were easy. I got sour patch kids since her first album is called Sour. It was a fun easy tie-in
We listened to both of her albums and her song from The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. I was going to show lyric videos on the big screen but we have difficulties with our laptop.
Coloring is really popular with teens, so I found coloring pages on Pinterest and printed them off for us to color while listening to music.
This might not have been a successful program numbers-wise, but I think the teen that attended had fun, and she suggested that we hold a Billie Eilish fan night, as she is really popular with teenagers too.
Another great 90s inspired collage type craft to try would be making Zines: https://teenlibrariantoolbox.com/2020/04/08/diy-zines/
