Cindy Crushes Programming: Percy Jackson Escape Room

This was the first in person escape room since the pandemic. I was excited White Oak Library had gotten a new Breakout.Edu Kit. I chose to do Percy Jackson. Teens love Percy Jackson and the new series is coming soon to Disney+. I did it based on the books. I ran two sessions. One at 6 pm and one at 7 pm. I noticed the 7 pm had more kids.
I first came up with the plot. This tells me where the story and the escape room is going.
-Plot: Percy Jackson is trapped in Tartarus and you have to find the key to give to Nico
Time 45 min Sessions
Supplies:
- Underworld Map
- Camp Half Blood Map
- Symbols of the Gods
- Mermaid Tail
Breakout EDU Kit - Directional Lock
- Three Digit Lock
- Print out of international Morse Code
- 2 Key Locks with Key
- Decor
- Mythology Book with post its on two pages
- Tritian that I could unscrew
For the Directional Lock the code was North South East West. I made Percy Jackson’s note on where to go. There was a map of Camp Half Blood in the room with the locations on it.

- North Woods
- The Big House
- Amphilter
- Labyrinth
Word Lock : Had3z Lock on new box. I wrote the word Hades on a piece of paper and stuffed it in the trident.
Color lock: I circled the houses in order on a list of the gods and it will correspond with the color on the planet guide and they will have to remember the names of the Roman gods; Poseidon Blue, Mars Red, Mercury Brown, Aphrodite Orange, Cronus Brown. Lock on Big new Box
Number Lock 3 digits
Morse Code I put a note in Morse so they could find it and left the key to Morse code in a waist place to find.
323 Small lock placed on a small box with a key to a key other key lock placed on it.
Keylock 1 key placed in the mermaid Tail Opens box with nothing inside. This is a red herring. Lock placed on the Big Original Breakout Kit. I put nothing in this box. It really annoyed them.
Second Key lock was placed on a new big box. So they had to do Morse code to find this.
Other little box containing the note from Percy Jackson to use the directional lock on the big box.
Mythology Book Four Digit Lock lock on big box lock new box
With post its on page 38 and 55

This was much harder for teens to realize. They over-thought this one.
Overall: This had a great sign up number and brought new teens to the library. I really enjoyed getting back into making the in person escape rooms. This can be paired down with less locks to simplify.
