Cindy Crushes Programming: Summer Reading is Over, Now What?

August 2, 2023 by Cindy Shutts   Leave a Comment

I am like most of the librarians who have just finished summer reading. Tired! Not only did we complete summer reading but we just had Comicopolis, our annual Library Comic Con, this past Saturday and then Monday I was back to programming with making Mermaid Themed Bath Bombs. Not my best Bath Bomb. The molds were small and they kept exploding.

What do I do after summer reading?

First,I clean up. I pick up things in the library that have been sitting in piles as work has gathered on my desk.

I changed out the displays and got ready for what is next and is upcoming soon. One of my coworkers, Faith Healy, did a History of Barbie Program so I made a Barbie Display matching young and adult books with Barbies from the film with a coworker of mine.  I found a Giant box and my coworkers and I made a Barbie box. It brought joy and made it nice for photo ops.

Then I reflect, the time after Summer Reading is the best to take notes about what went well  and how it could be improved upon.

One thing I liked was my library decorations this year. We did a sea theme and I was able to let the teens decorate the teen room themselves. They put up all the decorations.

One thing I think we could do better next year would be finding out the prizes before summer reading started so we could advertise it more. We knew it would be a gift card but we were not sure what type of gift card it would be, this would have been a big help for school visits

Soon back to school visits will be coming and the cycle begins again. Hang in there everyone.
