Popular Middle Grade Author Stuart Gibbs Launches a New Venture to Help Inspire and Guide Young Writers
When you think about middle grade readers, Stuart Gibbs should be one of the go to authors that come to mind. He has written six book series, including the FunJungle series, the Moon Base Alpha series, the Spy School series, the Charlie Thorne series, the Last Musketeer and Once Upon a Tim. He is now launching a new video series to help inspire young writers and share tips with them. It’s a growing resource that should prove valuable to educators and librarians everywhere.
The new venture is a free and easy to access website with fun educational videos called Stuart Gibbs Mission: Write.
From the press release, S&S Children’s shares that Gibbs has just launched Stuart Gibbs – Mission: Write — “a new video tool for teachers and librarians to help students with their creative writing skills, hosted by Stuart Gibbs, and in consultation with educators.” Check out his video introduction below.
Here you can find lesson plans, teacher instructions, and extension activities accompany each of the themes to help take students further within each topic, and the videos and downloads are free for classrooms to use. What a great resource! And every teacher can use more resources that take less time.
The videos were filmed on location throughout the Los Angeles area and touch on a variety of themes. The themes include: Anatomy of a Scene, Building Characters, Revisions, Telling a Story and Writerly Advice, and more. There are more lessons on the way.
When asked what inspired Gibbs to create this platform for students, Gibbs shared:
“One of the most common questions I get from students, whether it’s during a school visit or via email or a comment on my website, is ‘What advice do I have for aspiring authors?’ Now, those young authors — or entire classrooms — can go to this site and not just get advice from me, but also some truly wonderful lesson plans created by Dr Rose Brock. I have already heard from dozens of students and teachers around the country about how helpful they have found Mission: Write — and I am thrilled by how well this project has come together, thanks to everyone at Simon & Schuster.”
This is a great resource and you’ll want to check it out.
