Cindy Crushes Programming: Booktok Ornament

December 21, 2022 by Cindy Shutts   Leave a Comment

When I saw this Book Ornament on TikTok, I couldn’t wait to make it. I thought it was so clever and cute. Below are step-by-step instructions. It’s such a great craft idea for those of use who love books. And the best part is, it doesn’t really have to be holiday specific. There is no reason you can’t display this and add books all year round. Or make one a month and have a set at the end of the year and have a fun way to look at your year in reading.

Supplies

  • White Foam Sheets Crafts, 30 Pack, 9 x 12 Inch, 2mm Thick. Premium Eva Foam Papers
  • Empty Plastic Ornaments
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Printable cover  (You can make your own, take them from Pinterest, or buy some on Etsy)

Step one: Get the covers. You want to make sure they are titles your teens like. I had a lot of middle grade and ya books also some adult titles with teen appeal. You do not want them too big to fit in your ornament. This often involved testing the sizing when printing. There is a Canva template for sizing here: https://www.howdidthatbookend.com/viral-book-ornament-drag-and-drop-canva-template/.

Step two: Have teens cut out the titles of books they want. This was fun because  you get to see what teens are really reading.

Step three: Have the teen place the book on the craft foam. The edge of the foam will be the spine of the book. Have them cut out the foam using the book as a pattern.

Step four: Glue the image on the foam. A gluestick is perfect.

Step five: Open the ornament and place the book in it.

My final thoughts: This might be my favorite craft I have ever made. I loved it so much. I put in books I really enjoyed in mine.
