December Audio Book of the Month Giveaway: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

December 2, 2013 by Karen Jensen, MLS   14 comments

The month of December brings us a new Audio Book of the Month Giveaway brought to you by Random House Books on Tape and Listening Library.  Each month you will have the chance to enter and win a new MG or YA audio book – because audio books are cool.

The December Audio Book of the Month Pick is Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Cath is a Simon Snow fan.

Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan . . .

But for Cath, being a fan is her life — and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.

Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?

Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?

And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

My take: I haven’t heard or even read Fangirl, but Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell is one of my top reads of 2013.  I have heard lots of good things and it is definitely on my TBR pile.  You can listen to an excerpt at Random House Listening Library.

So here’s how you can enter to win:

1.  The contest will run each month, roughly the first day of the month until the last.

2. You can enter via the Rafflecopter in multiple ways.  One way includes leaving a blog comment so tell us: 1) What’s your favorite time, place or way to listen to audio books? and/or 2)Who – or what – are you a huge fan of, or were as a teen?

3.  The contest is open to residents of the U.S.

4.  Rafflecopter will pick a winner, I will email that winner to get their address, and Random House Books on Tape/Listening Library will email the winner’s audio book out to them.

I love listening to audiobooks in my car… I have a long commute to work every day, so I get a lot of reading done!

I listen to audio in my car with my son (he's only 5 months old, but what 5month old doesn't love Stephen King? Seriously). I also listen in my house when I'm cleaning or cooking. Or walking. I listen to a lot of audio books walking.

I mostly listen to audio books while I'm doing chores at home, but also when on the bus/metro. I loved Eleanor & Park and have been looking forward to reading Fangirl!

I keep hearing about this book, but our library doesn't have anything by Rainbow Rowell (yet!). I'd love to get a chance to listen to it when I commute on weekends.

I absolutely love Fangirl. I liked Eleanor and Park a lot, but Fangirl was what won me over completely.

I mostly listen to audiobooks in the car while commuting to work, but if I'm near the end and won't be in the car for a few days, I listen to them while I'm cleaning the house.

As a teen I was a huge fan of Francesca Lia Block and those kinds of books that are somewhat fantasy, but set in the real world. Now I still like those, plus I read a lot of graphic novels.

I love audiobooks! I listen to them in my car going to work and while I am cleaning. My library system just started the eAudiobooks and it is such a great tool to use! I am a big fan of The Naming by Alison Croggon. The series is great and I love the way it ended.

I listen to audiobooks at the gym. I get lost in the stories and the time goes by so quickly!
