Top 10: Reasons I can’t wait until Fall

Drum roll please . . . some of the books that will make this fall epically awesome. Or awesomely epic. Or cool beans if you are feeling retro about it all.

Ask the Passengers by A. S. King

Sure, you could say I am bragging that I have a signed copy – but mostly I am saying this: Ask the Passengers is a fantastic read coming out in October and I can’t wait until the world is reading this.  It is, simply stated, about a girl named Astrid learning to love and accept herself in a world that often doesn’t.  It is also, in a word, genius. (October, Little, Brown)

As for the signature: I am sure she is trying to say “Karen, you are doing fabulous things for teens, libraries and the world at large.”  That’s what “You Rock” means, right?

Crewel by Gennifer Albin

So this is cheating because I just reviewed it yesterday, but again – I can’t wait until everyone is reading and talking about this book.

The Future We Left Behind by Mike A. Lancaster

This is the sequel to the MG awesomesauce that is Human.4, previously discussed.  It comes out in November I believe from EgmontUSA.  Another fall sequel you’ll want from EgmontUSA is Shadows, the sequel to Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick.  It is an epic post apocalyptic zombie novel. Read them both and prepare for the sequel one-two punch.

Butter by Erin Jade Lange

Stephanie has already read this book and proclaims that it is amazing.  It is the story of a lonely, obese boys who decided he is going to eat himself to death. I believe there will a need for tissues.  (September, Bloomsbury)

Every Day by David Levithan

Again, I have already read and discussed this book so you can view my full review there. But it is such a unique concept – a boy/girl/person/entity wakes up every day in a different body and gets to experience a thousands lives. (August, Knopf)

The Other Normals by Ned Vizzini

Can role playing games prepare to you save the world? Ned Vizzini can always be counted on for some good writing and I like the idea of looking at the game culture in a fun way. (September, Balzer + Bray)

Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter

Look, it comes as no surprise to any of us that I like zombies.  And I love Alice in Wonderland.  So of course we should put the two of them together.  Please feel free to send this book my way ASAP.  Book 1 in the White Rabbit Chronicles. (September, Harlequin Teen)

The Raven Boys by Maggie Steifvater

I really feel like all you need to say here is new paranormal. By Maggie Steifvater.  That just about covers it, right? I will say this was a hotly sought after ARC at ALA. (September, Scholastic)

Safekeeping by Karen Hesse
Perhaps taking a cue from Ransom Riggs and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, this book contains photos from Karen Hesse to tell the story of one boys return home to an America that is slightly different then the one he left behind. (September, Feiwel and Friends)

Burn for Burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian
Ah the sweet, sweet lure of revenge.  Who doesn’t wish for some good ole’ fashioned revenge sometime? In fact, I am sure we could all come up with a list.  Here, Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian put together a revenge fantasy to help keep us all from pursuing revenge in the real world.  Sometimes fiction saves us. Even the tag line is cool: Girls Don’t Cry, They Get Even. (September, Simon & Schuster)
